2017 Tesla Model X vs. Its Competition

2017 Tesla Model X

There are few SUVs that carry the same cachet as the Model X, none of them are as efficient.

The Range Rover is the old standard here, and for good reason: it's exceptionally nice and much better off road than the Model X.

The G Class is the antithesis of the Tesla; the big Mercedes-Benz is a brick in the wind, inefficient, and noisy.

But then again, you'll be the envy of the valet lot.

The Porsche Cayenne is more urban-minded—like the Model X—and available as a hybrid too, but the Porsche doesn't have the same interior flexibility.

The new Bentayga rivals the Model X in performance and exclusivity, but can easily approach $200,000.

We don't imagine many will cross-shop the Escalade and Model X, but the big Caddy is just as opulent and more reasonably priced.

Quick Specs
The 2017 Tesla Model X is in a class of its own as an all-electric luxury SUV with breathtaking performance, and an equally intimidating price.
A pop culture icon in its own time, the Cadillac Escalade offers unmatched gravitas and presence—if that's your thing.
Few vehicles match the 2017 Range Rover's luxury and performance on pavement; fewer still can keep up with it when the pavement ends.
A Mercedes-Benz G-Class isn't a logical buy, but that's just why it has endured so long. Not everyone wants an economical sedan, after all.
The 2017 Porsche Cayenne is versatile and roomy, yet it possesses road and even track performance to satisfy enthusiasts.
The 2017 Bentley Bentayga is the first SUV from the automaker and is befitting the name. The Bentayga may fall closer to the Continental than it does the Mulsanne, but we're guessing most only care that it's a Bentley.
