2017 Subaru Legacy vs. Its Competition

2017 Subaru Legacy
Aaron Cole Aaron Cole Managing Editor

Subaru's standard all-wheel drive on base models means the sedan gets a leg up on the Chrysler 200 and Ford Fusion, both of which offer the added all-weather traction, but on pricey models.

The Legacy sports a bigger back seat than the 200 and better standard infotainment than the Fusion—not to mention a lower price.

The Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are perennial powerhouses in the segment and both can offer better fuel economy than the Legacy, but the Legacy is just more fun to drive in most models.

The Nissan Altima is the other natural competitor, and it too gained a sporty edition last year.

Beyond the Altima's seats, it doesn't outpoint the Legacy on much else.

Quick Specs
7.3
The safety and all-weather performance of the 2017 Subaru Legacy are convincing enough. Consider the roomy sedan's value at any trim and decent gas mileage, and it's no wonder it was our Best Car to Buy for 2015.
6.8
The 2017 Chrysler 200 excels for safety and style, but rear seat headroom is a problem and it has trouble grabbing sales away from its very tough competition.
7.3
The 2017 Ford Fusion blends enduring good looks, a wide variety of powertrains, impressive interior space and comfort along with all the latest electronic safety systems and a few design upgrades.
7.2
The 2017 Nissan Altima remains a fine mainstream choice, but rivals with newer designs offer far more technology.
7.0
The 2017 Toyota Camry is a comfortable commuter without much pretension; a very good appliance for car buyers who prefer substance over style.
