2019 Subaru Ascent vs. Its Competition

2019 Subaru Ascent

The Honda Pilot was our Best Car to Buy two years ago and remains among our favorites in the class.

The Subaru Ascent offers a similarly creamy ride, open space, and good fuel economy—game on.

The Chevy Traverse is a popular pick, and has a couple more inches for rear leg room than the Ascent.

We’re not as sold on the Traverse’s value, and most trim levels don’t offer standard all-wheel drive like the Ascent.

Mazda’s CX-9 does a reasonable job of convincing us it’s a premium crossover, although its interior packaging isn’t up to snuff for us.

The Dodge Durango has an available V-8, so pick it if dragging more than 5,000 pounds is a priority.

The VW Atlas is similarly conservative and sharp, but its V-6 is profoundly thirsty compared to the turbo-4 in the Subaru.
