2018 Porsche Macan vs. Its Competition

2018 Porsche Macan
Aaron Cole Aaron Cole Managing Editor

Few vehicles can rival the performance of a Porsche Macan, and most of them are called “sports cars.” The Audi SQ5 is a reasonable rendition, and there are fewer similarities to the Macan than there were before.

The BMW X4M isn’t far off and should give Porsche a run for its money, although the X4 is even less practical than the Macan’s shape.

The GLC-Class has high performance offerings that reach all the way up to GLC63 S guise, complete with V-8 rumble.

The Range Rover Velar is a new entry with a handsome shape, more room than the Macan, but not the same performance.

Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio will offer up to 505 hp, but lacks the polish of the Porsche.

Quick Specs
7.2
The 2018 Porsche Macan is the performance pick among compact crossovers because of course it is. Purists may scoff, but we don’t much care.
7.5
The Audi Q5 is certainly the segment's most modern offering, delivering a high degree of technology, comfort, and conservative style.
6.8
The 2018 BMW X4 takes today’s trend toward swoopier SUVs and packages it with a roundel up front. It’s entertaining and a looker, but not all that practical.
8.2
The 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar takes chances in its exterior and interior and wins spectacularly. It’s a new benchmark for the luxury SUV company.
7.8
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class captivates crossover types with its lush cabin and its plush ride; there’s AMG power on tap if you must.
7.4
Remarkably fun to drive and beautiful too, the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio is great at driving, less facile at crossover-SUVing.
