2015 Porsche Cayenne vs. Its Competition

The Cayenne has several close rivals, although none of them blend a sports-car heritage with an SUV package quite like it does.

Infiniti's road-focused crossover, formerly the FX, is now called FX70; it continues to offer strong V-6 and V-8 powertrains in an attractive body but it doesn't come close to the Porsche's level of available performance assistants and equipment.

The Audi Q7 is a natural alternative to the Porsche Cayenne, as it's based on the same platform but significantly larger inside, with an available third-row seat, a different range of engines, and its own take on luxury and style.

Its supercharged V-6 engine also emerges as stronger in many respects compared to the Cayenne's base V-6.

BMW's X5 was new for 2014 and returns for 2015 packing a new version of the X5 M, which gives the Cayenne Turbo some god competition.

The Range Rover Sport has a mix of on-road performance and off-road ability similar to the Cayenne's, and its recent redesign shed pounds and added new performance computer systems; a new SVR trim will emerge this year to go after the hottest sporty SUVs.

For a very capable alternative, check out the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT; it has performance that rivals the Cayenne Turbo's, at a much lower price.

The 2018 Infiniti Q70 stands alone as a warm take on luxury that others have left behind. It’s not as luxurious as the others—but it’s not as expensive as those, either.
Though the 2015 Audi Q7 might show a little of its age, there are so few faults here that it's hard not to love this big SUV.
The 2015 BMW X5 is a handsome, capable, tech-filled vehicle for the shopper who wants a luxury SUV.
The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers an engine for everyone, and a feature list as extensive as those found in luxury sedans.
The 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport takes the last part of its name very seriously, offering the best driving dynamics yet from the famed off-roading brand.
