2016 Porsche Boxster vs. Its Competition

The 2016 Porsche Boxster is probably most often considered against its mid-engine coupe counterpart, the Porsche Cayman.

It shares almost everything with that model, and we'd dare say the Cayman is an even better pick for the additional structural assurance that model provides in at-the-limit handling.

The Nissan 370Z and Infiniti Q60 share much of the same structure under the skin, and while the Infiniti's interior is a closer match to the Boxster's in luxury and equipment.

Both offer a great deal of power and handling for their price point; unfortunately, it comes at the expense of noise and refinement.

The BMW Z4 is roughly equivalent in power, features, and price, but it's now an aging model and lacks the refinement, fine-tuned handling, and sharp modern looks of the Boxster.

Audi's TT is another German take on the compact sports car, but its front-biased weight distribution makes for a more awkward, if still capable, sports driving experience.

The TT's all-wheel drive is a nice feature, however, for those in the snow belt.

Chevrolet's Corvette Stingray is also one to consider against the Boxster, if only because it's a sports car, available in both coupe and convertible forms, for about the same price; otherwise, the Corvette is more in the 911's performance league than the Boxster's, and would significantly outpace the smaller mid-engined roadster on the street or the track.

Quick Specs
The 2016 Porsche Boxster is a thrill to drive; but beyond that it's a great car in nearly every way, and one of the best-value sports cars you can get.
With a driver-centric interior design and a lighter, quicker driving character, the 2016 Audi TT now offers more of the driving experience that its exterior teases.
While it isn't as agile as the Porsche Boxster it is priced against, the 2016 BMW Z4 balances sportiness with comfort and a comfortable cabin.
The 2016 Chevrolet Corvette's exceptional performance, style, comfort, and features, as well as its choice of high-power engines and body styles, adds up to an impressive sports car and grand tourer in oneā€”and a car that won't break the bank.
The 2016 Nissan 370Z offers a wide range of performance options in two body styles, all of which represent good value in a segment of the sports-car world with few other similarly priced options.
