2015 Porsche 911 vs. Its Competition

The 911 manages to stand on its own, with no other model line offering the breadth and depth of offerings.

That said, there are several competitors aimed at parts of the 911 roster.

The Jaguar F-Type chooses a balance that's much closer to the 911's mix of practicality, style, and speed, but comes up short in the purity of its dynamics--though its sound and design are among the best in the segment.

Nissan's GT-R is best compared to the upper end of the Porsche range, as its twin-turbo all-wheel-drive nature gives it incredible acceleration and impressive overall performance.

With a vestigial back seat, much like the 911's, the GT-R's practicality and daily-driver suitability are close to the 911's as well.

BMW's 6-Series is more comfort-oriented than the very sporty Porsche 911, but offers its own brand of speed in the form of the M6.

The Chevy Corvette Stingray, new last year, is an incredible value, starting at about half the price of similar-performance 911s.

The Vette has an interior that finally matches the performance of the car, but without a back seat or available all-wheel drive, the Corvette can only be considered against a small portion of the 911 range.

For 2015, Chevrolet adds a higher-performance Corvette Z06, in both coupe and convertible bodies.

And AMG will soon have a 911 competitor in the form of its GT coupe.
