Jaguar's XK and BMW's 6-Series are more comfort-oriented, more luxury-focused than the very sporty Porsche 911, but both offer their own brand of speed as well.

The Jaguar F-Type chooses a balance that's much closer to the 911's mix of practicality, style, and speed, but the new Jag comes up short in the purity of its dynamics--though its sound and design are among the best in the segment.

Nissan's GT-R is best paired against the upper end of the Porsche range, as its twin-turbo all-wheel-drive nature gives it incredible acceleration and impressive overall performance.

With a vestigial back seat, much like the 911, the GT-R's practicality and daily driver suitability are close to the 911s as well.

The newest competitor in this echelon of the sports car universe is the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray, and it's an incredible value, starting at about half the price of similar-performance 911s.

For the new model, Chevy has equipped the Corvette with an interior that finally matches the performance of the car, but without even a hint of a back seat and no available all-wheel drive, the Corvette can only be considered against a small portion of the 911 range.
