2016 Nissan Titan vs. Its Competition

2016 Nissan Titan

The Titan XD is designed to fit between the light-duty and heavy-duty picks from Ford, GM, and Ram.

In just the past two years, the four best pickups in the segment have all been re-engineered totally, or significantly.

The Ford F-150 is a technical triumph, with its new aluminum body shaving more than 500 pounds off its curb weight.

The stylish Ram 1500 may have the best ride, with its available air springs, added to suave Longhorn trim, and tractor-trailer styling.

The Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra were new for 2014, and sport an excellent base V-6, an even better V-8, and much improved interior styling and space, though the Chevy looks plain, and back-seat comfort is less impressive.

The Toyota Tundra has also been redone, but it's failed to make a dent in the others' sales; styling is bland, and tow and payload ratings are lower, though the powertrains are very smooth.

Quick Specs
8.0
The 2016 Nissan Titan XD is a smart pick for semi-heavy pulling power, but if you rarely or never tow big trailers, you're better served by a light-duty pickup.
8.0
The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado takes a traditional truck path but counters that with a comfortable, refined interior and a mother lode of technology.
8.6
The 2016 Ford F-150, fresh off a transformation that made it leaner yet much-improved in most ways, gets new Sync 3 infotainment and trailer-backup wizardry.
8.2
The 2016 Ram 1500 will win over full-size truck buyers looking for a diesel offering and an opulent interior, but safety scores need improvement.
