2014 Nissan Sentra vs. Its Competition

2014 Nissan Sentra
Bengt Halvorson Bengt Halvorson Senior Editor

The Nissan Sentra is on the larger side of the compact car segment, making the Chevrolet Cruze its closest competitor.

The Cruze feels refined, comfortable and refined.

The Hyundai Elantra and Ford Focus stand out due to their stylish designs, but the Elantra is more of a value leader, while the Focus manages to be one of the sportiest models in this segment.

The Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic are the Sentra's more traditional competitors.

The Corolla is all-new for 2014, brought back from the retirement home to new levels of quality and feature technology, while the Civic has improved over its 2012 model year gone awry, with better materials and a better look.

Quick Specs
The 2014 Nissan Sentra focuses on comfort, spaciousness and style over driving dynamics in an attempt to push this economy car up-market.
The 2014 Chevy Cruze is comfortable and practical--and now it offers a diesel engine that can return 40 mpg in real-world use.
Even without considering the top-performance ST, the 2014 Ford Focus is one of the best-driving small cars on the market--with the impression of being an accessible premium car, not a spruced-up econobox.
The 2014 Honda Civic brings better refinement back to the lineup, but there's more to come, we're told.
The Hyundai Elantra already had the bases covered--we'll see if a new engine and new tuning draws it even closer to best in class.
The 2014 Toyota Corolla keeps its frugal, responsible core but adds a lot more verve.
