2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE Class vs. Its Competition

2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class (Mercedes-AMG GLE43 SUV)

The Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class will get compared most often to rivals from BMW or Audi.

BMW's X5 and X6 more closely align to the GLE-Class and can be had with similar powertrains, although BMW still manages to offer a turbodiesel—that we prefer.

The new Q7 features more room in a bigger package, although without the same performance versions as found on the Mercedes.

The Acura MDX isn't as daring as the Mercedes, but comes with slightly better fuel economy outside of the hybrid version.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is considerably less than the GLE Class and offers more off-road capability, if that's what buyers are interested in.

The Lexus RX 350 has a style all its own and we suspect that some buyers will be turned off by the polarizing angular look.

Performance, plug-in, or pedestrian: there’s a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE for almost every luxury-SUV buyer.
7.3
The 2018 Acura MDX should be atop many lists for luxury buyers looking for spacious family crossovers. Others may do bits and pieces better, but the MDX offers a complete—and well-considered package.
7.8
The 2018 Audi Q7 delivers exactly what luxury buyers want: room for the whole family and some of the most advanced technology ever fitted to a new car.
7.2
The 2018 BMW X5 remains a thoughtful crossover SUV for families, although enthusiasts may be left wanting unless the right options are selected.
7.7
Only poor crash test scores keep the Grand Cherokee down, as this talented family hauler offers luxury and utility and buyers can choose off-road capability, track talent, or even more luxury.
7.5
The Lexus RX makes a style-conscious statement like never before, and it hasn’t lost its grip on good manners.
