2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS Class vs. Its Competition

2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS Class
Aaron Cole Aaron Cole Managing Editor

The Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class helped define the segment it dominates.

The BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe is the logical competitor and is a very good car—especially in M6 form.

We're just not sold on BMW's iDrive in there.

The Porsche Panamera is all new this year and is exciting.

We expect that the Porsche will be king of the hill for a while.

The Jaguar XF was new last year, although we think that it's a stiffer ride and worse packaging now.

The Audi A7 is a worthy competitor and is one of our highest rated cars for its supreme performance and good looks.

The CTS is interesting—especially in CTS-V form—because of its no-holds-barred approach to the segment.

Quick Specs
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is the first of its kind and in need of a makeover. It's still timeless, but it's also time for what's next.
The 2017 Audi A7’s combination of sexy exterior style and healthy interior practicality make for a grand touring luxury sedan par excellence.
The 2017 BMW 6-Series is a luxurious jack of all trades (speed, style, comfort, and quality) but a master of one: grand touring.
The 2017 Cadillac CTS-V impresses on all fronts, unseating BMW and Mercedes-Benz by offering the best combination of performance and day-to-day livability in the large luxury/sport sedan segment.
The aluminum-bodied 2017 Jaguar XF is no lightweight when it comes to nimble handling or rear-seat space.
With better looks, more efficient and powerful engines, and a less cluttered interior, the 2017 Porsche Panamera promises to be a better carn than the fun sport sedan it's always been.
