2016 Mercedes-Benz C Class vs. Its Competition

The latest BMW 3-Series, like the new C-Class, is larger and more high-tech than its predecessor was, and offers many of the same benefits—though it lacks some of the higher-end safety electronics found on the Mercedes.

Audi's A4 is equally stylish, with a similar take on turbocharged, all-wheel drive powertrains, but a perhaps more understated presence; it's due to be replaced in 2017.

Lexus' IS is more futuristically styled, yet also somewhat less enthusiastically powered, but offers compelling value in the segment.

Cadillac's ATS is an engaging sports sedan, with a composed chassis and quality interior, but it, too, lacks many of the more advanced technological features found on the C-Class.

Infiniti's Q50 exceeds even the C-Class in some technological respects, especially its steering-by-wire system, and it's beautiful to look at, but glitches in the infotainment system have plagued early examples; it receives a host of new powertrains for the 2016 model year.

Quick Specs
9.0
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is one very charming luxury car; in AMG trim, it's risen above and beyond Bavarian levels of handling.
8.2
The 2016 Audi A4 is still a handsome, strong competitor with solid fuel economy and good power from its lone engine, even as the current generation comes to a close.
8.2
The 2016 BMW 3-Series delivers outstanding performance and comfort in a tastefully understated package.
8.6
The 2016 Cadillac ATS meets all the benchmarks for performance, features, and driving dynamics, and it somehow emerges to market with a little more soul than most of its key rivals.
8.4
The 2016 Infiniti Q50 is an appealing luxury sedan with improved power and more feel in its "steer-by-wire" system, but a bit more enthusiast flavor would make it a better sport sedan.
