2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT vs. Its Competition

Porsche's 911 is the most obvious competitor to the AMG GT, as that's the car the Mercedes was built to take on.

For the more practical, daily-driving sports car nut, the 911 is still the best option, especially if all-wheel-drive or a back seat are musts—but the AMG GT is easily as fun when the weekend comes around.

The 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 is a less expensive, even higher-performance alternative, though what you make up in lap time you give up in cachet.

Maserati's GranTurismo is the opposite: what you give up in lap time compared to the AMG GT you gain back in Italian style and relative obscurity—or rarity, depending on your perspective.

The Aston Martin brand wouldn't have deigned to confer with such relative mortals as even the AMG GT until recently, but with the entry of the V8 Vantage GT, it's now possible to speak of the Aston Martin as being the bargain option—but at the same time, it lacks the true performance credentials offered by the AMG.
