2016 Mazda MAZDA6 vs. Its Competition

The Mazda 6 is one of the most interesting mid-size sedans in many years, but it arrived on the market just as a handful of other family sedans also found new style and substance.

The Ford Fusion is the 6's natural rival: it has a rakish design and a range of powerful turbo fours.

The Nissan Altima gets up to 38 mpg on the highway and feels like a more mature, almost luxurious sedan this time around.

The Honda Accord has rediscovered its lighter, more zesty driving feel and has an excellent four-cylinder/CVT powertrain on offer (and keeps the V-6 option).

The Subaru Legacy remains the way to go if you want all-wheel drive; it's been completely redesigned for 2015, with better looks, a more refined interior and better infotainment.

The Kia Optima is another alternative, offering one of the strongest sets of features for the money, as well as a quick yet economical Turbo variant.

Quick Specs
The Mazda 6 is a near-knockout: its four-cylinder isn't blazingly quick, but the stunning shape and athletic driving experience add a lot of charm to the surprisingly frugal four-door.
The 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid combines high gas mileage and a quiet ride with one of the best-looking family-sedan bodies.
The 2016 Kia Optima is better than its game-changing predecessor in nearly every way—except it’s a little less distinct.
A new SR model brings some driving fun back to the 2016 Nissan Altima, while preserving its mainstream family-sedan appeal.
All-wheel drive for the entire lineup, a big back seat, and excellent gas mileage might be enough on their own to woo family-sedan shoppers; the 2016 Subaru Legacy has that, plus top safety, a smooth ride, and a design that fits right in.
