2017 Mazda CX-3 vs. Its Competition

2017 Mazda CX-3

Small crossover SUVs are flooding the market right now, and the Mazda CX-3 has no shortage of competitors.

The Jeep Renegade starts at a lower price in theory, but comparably equipped to a CX-3 is more expensive.

The Renegade has off road cred, but also a 9-speed automatic that we don't care much for.

The Fiat 500X is related closely to the Renegade, but is packaged poorly for passengers.

The Honda HR-V is a likely competitor to the CX-3 and has more utility, but is slower to drive.

The Chevy Trax is OK, provided you stick to front-drive.

The Crosstrek only comes with standard all-wheel-drive, and may be a better all-around car, but it starts at about $1,000 more than the CX-3.

Quick Specs
7.2
The 2017 Mazda CX-3 keeps the most attractive features from last year: its price and its handling.
5.8
The 2017 Chevrolet Trax may lack power and style, but it's a smart package for city dwellers thanks to a useful hatchback shape, thrifty fuel economy, and a low price.
6.8
Think of the 2017 Honda HR-V as a Fit with all-wheel drive and a little more headroom. It's not as fun as it could be, but it makes a lot of sense.
5.3
The 2017 Jeep Renegade is the smallest Jeep you can buy, appealing both to commuters and off-roaders, but its design can outshine its performance.
6.2
The 2017 Subaru Outback is an extremely versatile, rugged, compact SUV that's relatively efficient compared to other crossovers.
6.5
With more personality than most small crossovers, the Fiat 500X is definitely worth a look.
