2016 Maserati Ghibli vs. Its Competition

While it's smaller and more affordable than the Quattroporte, the Maserati Ghibli competes against many of the same cars, though that's due more to Maserati's unique balance of luxury, design, performance, and price, than any inherent shortcomings or strengths of the competition.

The Infiniti Q70 has a lush design language and options like silver-dusted wood trim.

The Mercedes-Benz CLS Class and BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe offer more mainstream takes on both luxury and design, and while they aren't as well-finished or as striking, they are likely to be more dependable, more efficient, and less expensive to own in the long run.

Audi's new RS 7 is overmatched to the Ghibli's power output, but otherwise, hits many of the same marks, with a sleek, elegant exterior, a refined, modern interior, and standard, rather than available, all-wheel drive.

Lastly, the Jaguar XF is new and much improved for 2016, with a lean aluminum body, an adult-tuned ride, and sculpted body panels.

Quick Specs
The 2016 Maserati Ghibli has tight back-seat space, and handling isn't best in class, but it has panache to burn.
The 2016 Audi S7 is one of the most beautiful cars on the road today, plus it packs serious performance and abundant high-tech equipment.
The 2016 BMW M6 is a no-compromises kind of car for buyers unfazed by traditional sports car manufacturers. It's better suited for the streets than the track, and that's not a bad thing.
The 2016 Infiniti Q70—especially in its long-wheelbase form—poses an interesting alternative to conservative German luxury sedans.
The 2016 Jaguar XF may be made of aluminum, but it's no lightweight anymore in rear-seat space or nimble handling.
The 2016 Mercedes CLS-Class looks great—inside and out. But a new E-Class and more efficient powertrains may outrun the potent "four-door coupe" sooner rather than later.
