2017 Lincoln MKX vs. Its Competition

2017 Lincoln MKX
Andrew Ganz Andrew Ganz Senior Editor

Coming in at about $40,000 to start, the MKX undercuts its default European rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the BMW X5, but the MKX can be built to a nearly as luxurious standard with just a few options.

Its most obvious rival is the segment-leading, in terms of sales numbers, Lexus RX, which is justifiably popular.

The Nissan Murano is another under-the-radar crossover that feels more luxurious than its nameplate might suggest, and it's something of a bargain.

And then there's the Audi Q5, which is priced about like the MKX but is quite a bit smaller inside and out.

Quick Specs
Load up an MKX and you'll be over $60,000 before you know it, but this under-the-radar crossover largely feels worth the dough—if you take the time to seek it out.
The 2017 Audi Q5 soldiers on with good space and carlike handling; it's still one of the better luxury SUVs, despite its age.
The 2017 BMW X5 boasts a solid set of powertrains and features that move the sedan toward the top of any list of luxury SUVs.
As a style-conscious statement of indulgence, the Lexus RX shines like never before. Its looks are polarizing and it's not all that fun to drive even in F Sport form, but the RX continues to excel in many ways.
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class pared down its powertrains to gas only or a plug-in hybrid, although it still has plenty of stops in between for luxury buyers.
