The rival set for the 2016 Lexus RX includes models that aren’t overtly performance-oriented or off-road-oriented—rather, those that are style-conscious and comfortable, as well as packed with safety and convenience technology.
The Nissan Murano and Lincoln MKX are probably closest to it in layout (five-passenger) and design mission, as they’re all aimed at empty-nester couples and design-conscious professionals.
The MKX has been completely upgraded for 2016 as well, with more of an emphasis on performance, luxury ambiance, and safety technology.
The Murano is a very stylish five-passenger model that offers a lot of interior comfort and ride comfort—although the Nissan badge might turn those away who are looking for true luxury bragging rights.
The Acura MDX definitely meets those stipulations, and it’s likely to remain more fun to drive than the RX; it also offers a small third-row seat.
The Volvo XC90 is all-new this year; it also offers a third row, and beginning later this year it will be available as a plug-in hybrid.
Finally, there’s the Cadillac SRX, one of the oldest designs in this class, although one that remains a strong-seller with a well-designed interior.
