2017 Lexus LS vs. Its Competition

2017 Lexus LS
Aaron Cole Aaron Cole Managing Editor

The Lexus LS 460 is in rarefied air as a luxurious full-size sedan.

It predominately competes against the Mercedes-Benz S Class, BMW 7-Series, and Audi A8 for attention, although most have been updated recently.

(A new A8 should bow soon.) All three German sedans have performance models that outrun the LS 460 handily, but cost significantly more than their base counterparts.

In terms of outright excellence, the Mercedes takes the crown, although the Audi and BMW aren't close behind.

For buyers looking for a comfortable, smooth ride, without the performance pedigree, the Lexus is certainly worth a look.

Alongside the Lexus, the Jaguar XJ and Infiniti Q70 are relative outliers, but both offer characteristics that the Lexus doesn't.

The Jag has the look, the Infiniti has a hybrid.

Quick Specs
The 2017 Lexus LS 460 is a comfortable cruiser with a reputation to match: owners have consistently rated it one of the most satisfying models to own.
8.0
The 2017 Audi S8 is the super sedan by which others are measured.
8.6
The 2017 BMW 7-Series has a deceivingly conservative wrapper for its radically reengineered underpinnings and tech-centric cabin.
7.4
The 2017 Jaguar XJ carries forward the luxury banner from the British automaker in a way that we appreciate—swaddled in leather, massaged all the way.
8.4
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class lineup is more diverse than it's ever been and is still the benchmark by which all full-size luxury cars should be measured.
