The Range Rover Sport's amazingly wide range of talents pit it against a whole host of luxury vehicles, but its high price narrows that field to just a handful of competitive machines.
You might save some money and fuel, and skip the image-conscious part, and buy a Lincoln MKX--it's much more user-friendly and spacious, has a wonderful interior and features like voice-commanded systems that make it seem like a Star Trek SUV, but it lacks the heritage, prestige, and off-road ability of the Sport.
Moving up the scale, the Infiniti FX 50 is much closer in on-road performance and interior space; it handles very well, but its bulbous looks aren't for everyone.
The true competition comes from Germany: the high-powered versions of the BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche SUVs each offer amazing levels of grip and horsepower, and each is capable of even faster acceleration and top speed than the Sport, but none can quite match the Range Rover's off-road ability.
