2013 Land Rover LR2 vs. Its Competition

2013 Land Rover LR2
Martin Padgett Martin Padgett Editorial Director

The LR2 pitches a more rugged image than other luxury crossovers, both with its sheetmetal and its badge.

It's most like the Mercedes-Benz GLK in that respect; the GLK has less interior space but also has a new interior this year, more safety features, and a newly available diesel powertrain.

The BMW X3 is a viable alternative, though it's larger and often more expensive; in turbo-six form, it's nearly a sport sedan.

The Audi Q5 has a reputation for high sticker price too, and this year it spans a wider range of buyers with new hybrid and diesel engines and with a revamped supercharged six.

Volvo's XC60 has a reputation for safety and comfort in its corner, and it's also among the roomiest luxury crossovers.

The Cadillac SRX? It's fitted with the touchscreen CUE system this year, and got an improved V-6 engine last year to go with its creased sheetmetal and distinctly American take on the segment.

Quick Specs
An urbane crossover with real SUV heritage behind it, the 2013 Land Rover LR2 makes street driving more interesting this year with turbo power.
The 2013 Audi Q5 is one of the more carlike crossovers, with elegant execution, smart high-tech features, and very good passenger space.
The BMW X3 is a great-looking crossover, with a spacious, versatile, and classy interior; and with the introduction of a new base turbo four for 2013 in the xDrive28i, it gets better mileage with no compromise in performance.
The 2013 Cadillac SRX has a roomy, rich, uniquely American interior, and with new interior technology it's now the iPhone of crossovers.
It looks more like an authentically rugged SUV, but the improved 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK has carlike road manners and now, better fuel economy with both its gas V-6 and its new turbodiesel four.
The 2013 Volvo XC60 carries on the tradition of Volvo wagons--even their top-of-the-class safety--only in a modern, fashion-conscious crossover.
