2018 Land Rover Discovery vs. Its Competition

2018 Land Rover Discovery
Aaron Cole Aaron Cole Managing Editor

The Land Rover Discovery is related to the Land Rover Range Rover more closely now than it has been in the past.

Both use lighter-weight aluminum for better fuel efficiency, and ride atop similar platforms.

The Discovery now feels every bit as luxurious as the Range Rover is—in some trims.

The Rover surpasses in top trims, and by a wide margin, but you’ll pay for the privilege.

The Chevy Tahoe doesn’t have the cachet of either Land Rover model, but does feature three rows of seats and surprising towing capability.

Same goes for the new Ford Expeditions, and is new for 2018.

The Toyota Land Cruiser has the same off-road mission as the Land Rover, but lacks the polish and finesse of the new Discovery even though it has roughly the same price as a top-trimmed Disco.

The Audi Q7 is more focused on its on-road manners, and is worth considering if you don’t need to take a Land Rover over more than a speed bump.
