2023 Kia Sportage vs. Its Competition

2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid
Robert Duffer Robert Duffer Senior Editor

Sharing a platform with the seven-seat Kia Sorento SUV and Hyundai Tucson, the Sportage grows into the larger end of the largest segment among shoppers, the compact crossover.

It falls short of the roomy Tiguan, yet still claims more leg room because Kia doesn’t cram in a third row like VW.

For now, the Sportage lacks a hybrid option, unlike these bestsellers.

The Toyota RAV4 leads the class with the potent Prime plug-in hybrid and its 42 miles of electric range, but the versatile Ford Escape serves as the basis for everything from the Ford Bronco Sport to the Ford Maverick hybrid pickup truck.

The CR-V carries on as always good, never great, before Honda redesigns it for 2023.

The new Hyundai Tucson makes big gains in size and efficiency with its hybrid edition, and the origami look’s a showstopper.
