2023 Kia Niro vs. Its Competition

2023 Kia Niro (Korea spec)
Robert Duffer Robert Duffer Senior Editor

The Niro and its three electrified powertrains formerly squared off against the related Hyundai Ioniq, but Hyundai dropped the Ioniq EV with the launch of the larger Ioniq 5, and Kia kept the Niro EV despite launching the Kia EV6.

Isn’t it Ioniq, doncha think? Hyundai also sells the Kona gas model and Kona EV small electric crossover with 258 miles of range, though its availability is limited.

The Honda Insight hybrid sedan could do a disappearing act at any time, but its Civic-like style and 52 mpg combined make it a compelling alternative to the Toyota Prius, a modern classic 20+ years in the running.

The outlier here is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 crossover, which sacrifices little and gains much efficiency in hybrid and Prime plug-in hybrid variants, if you can get one.
