There are a number of affordable electric hatchbacks and small crossovers with sticker prices that start under $40,000, but just a few with rated ranges over 200 miles.
In its Leaf Plus version, the Nissan Leaf offers up to 226 miles of range and faster 100-kw fast charging.
The Hyundai Kona Electric has a 258-mile range and has better ride-and-handling behavior than the Niro EV.
The Bolt EV isn’t as roomy inside, but it’s the current champ of the non-Tesla models for range, offering 259 miles.
Finally, there’s the Tesla Model Y, which costs more than these other models but promises a future version approaching them in affordability.
