2016 Kia Cadenza vs. Its Competition

2016 Kia Cadenza
Martin Padgett Martin Padgett Editorial Director

The Cadenza arrived on the heels of a number of new entries, in a crowded class of almost-luxury large sedans that includes the Hyundai Azera, Toyota Avalon, Ford Taurus, and Chevrolet Impala.

Its toughest new rival is the Nissan Maxima, a V-6-powered Altima spin-off with exceptionally daring styling and nimble road manners, in SR trim at least.

Both the latest Toyota Avalon and Chevrolet Impala are vast improvements over their predecessors, providing stylish wrappers, plenty of convenience features, and comfortable interiors, plus they're somewhat enjoyable to drive.

The Avalon offers a 40-mpg Hybrid model that can't be beat if you want something roomy, comfortable, and green, while the Ford Taurus can be had with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that boosts mileage to 32 mpg highway.

The Taurus is otherwise unspectacular to drive, unless you opt for the performance-oriented (and very thirsty) SHO.
