2015 Jeep Patriot vs. Its Competition

The boxy Patriot lands right between small, quirky tall crossover-hatchback models like the Kia Soul, Nissan Juke, or Scion xB, and more practical models like the Ford Escape and Subaru Forester.

It’s one of the few to have a true off-road package, with low range, skid plates, and other Wrangler-like upgrades.

The Patriot is most like its Jeep Compass sibling, but favors a more macho look and slightly less content that give it a lower price.

The Ford Escape is far more sophisticated, with carlike ride and handling.

The Subaru Forester is also relatively new, having made big gains in refinement and interior space.

The Scion xB looks like it would offer quite a bit of space and versatility but ends up surprisingly cramped.

For those looking at smaller models, there’s also the Kia Soul, which drives like a small car and has no off-road ability.

Nissan's Cube, another boxy option, is no longer being sold.

Quick Specs
The 2015 Jeep Patriot is a no-nonsense budget utility, with available equipment that can take you where most little crossovers won't.
With authentically athletic looks and performance balancing out good passenger space, cargo versatility, and loads of high-tech features, the 2014 Ford Escape is attractive to a wide range of buyers.
The 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander looks sporty, maneuvers easily, and is very space-efficient. All that's missing is the refined interior that the exterior suggests.
The 2014 Nissan Cube is a boxy fashion statement that puts an emphasis on style, but at the expense of some practicality.
The sharp-looking 2014 Subaru Forester gets a lot more comfortable inside, and offers some useful driving aids and safety electronics.
The 2014 Scion xB might not be as trendy -- or sensible -- as it tries to be, but it fits a lot of cabin space into a compact footprint.
