2014 INFINITI QX80 vs. Its Competition

2014 Infiniti QX80
Marty Padgett Marty Padgett Editorial Director

Since the 2011 Infiniti QX56–now the QX80–was redesigned in 2011, other contenders have entered the playing field.

The Lexus LX 570 is a near-clone of the very large Toyota Land Cruiser, but it brings with it luxury and rugged capabilities that match the QX.

Nearing the end of their currently product cycles, the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade remain the kings of bling with full-size SUV practicality and towing abilities, and the Escalade even offers a Hybrid version.

The Benz GL is brand-new this year, improved in almost every way, from infotainment features to its new power-folding second-row seat; its diesel edition is our favorite among the full-size luxo-utes.

Finally, the Range Rover is heading toward retirement: a brand-new vehicle, spun from the Jaguar XJ architecture, is due for a world debut in the fall of 2012, with a curb weight up to 500 pounds less than today's vehicle.

Quick Specs
If you're looking for a luxury SUV with legitimate off-roading potential, vehicles like the QX80 fit your niche interests.
The 2014 Cadillac Escalade remains one of the brawniest, most luxurious large SUVs, although some shoppers will be left wanting more modern interfaces inside.
The 2014 Land Rover Range Rover adds long-wheelbase comfort and Autobiography Black style to an already impressive all-purpose vehicle.
The Lexus LX 570 is luxurious and capable, but above all, bulky.
The Lincoln Navigator is behind the times in many ways, but still has that uniquely American feel that comes from sheer size.
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL may be an expensive way to haul the family around, but it has excellent driving manners and some very sophisticated safety technology, too.
