2015 INFINITI Q40 vs. Its Competition

The Q40, like the G37 Sedan that it used to be named, is a traditional rival to the BMW 3-Series sedans.

The current 3-Series has a fuel-efficient turbo four-cylinder engine family that really beats the Infiniti models for efficiency, though; and while its steering isn't ultimately up to the standards of the past its handling retains some of the expected sharpness.

A turbo six is also offered in the 335i models.

Otherwise, the Audi A4 is a top alternative, with its rear-biased Quattro all-wheel-drive system adding up to more driving enjoyment than you might expect; it has top-notch cabin appointments, it's a little tighter than the other models inside.

The Acura TLX replaces the TL and TSX, and it's a new rival with a sportier flavor; we haven't driven it yet, but it looks like an exciting (and probably more fuel-efficient) alternative.

The interior of the Lexus IS 350 is also quite cramped, with a design that looks more dated, and it doesn't feel quite as sporty overall as the G37.

The latest Lexus IS sport sedans also take a step in a more aggressive direction.

And finally, Infiniti's own Q50 sedans are an alternative to the Q40; with a Q50 Hybrid in the mix, as well as far better in-cabin refinement and infotainment systems, no matter which Q50 you choose.

Quick Specs
The 2015 Infiniti Q40 is, literally, last year's model. Alongside the new Q50 it offers a compelling, more vivid driving experience -- albeit with far less refinement.
The 2015 Acura TLX offers impressive performance, ample features, and smart value.
The 2015 Audi A4 and S4 sedans are tech-laden, trim, handsome alternatives to the other expected German cars, as well as one very good American one.
The 2015 BMW 3-Series lineup is a sport sedan at heart, but with Sports Wagon and Gran Turismo (hatchback) models, it's a lot more than that.
The 2015 Infiniti Q50 continues as a more luxurious successor to the fabled G sedan, although in some forms it loses part of the enthusiast flavor of that model.
The 2015 Lexus IS offers a good blend of comfort, style, technology, and driving dynamics.
