The Tesla Model Y is widely seen as the benchmark for the segment, but with a series of price hikes this year it now starts over $60,000—well beyond what a top-trim Ioniq 5 costs.

Arriving in 2022, the Nissan Ariya will debut a second generation of Nissan EV technology and include a performance-oriented all-wheel-drive option.

VW’s ID.4 is the first of new generation of EVs built on an MEB platform for affordable EVs, but it doesn’t charge as quickly or wring as many miles out of its energy as the Ioniq 5.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E offers a sportier driving experience and a lower, more Mustang-like driving position, but its interior is more cramped.

The Kia EV6 is a cousin to the Ioniq 5, and thanks to a more aerodynamic design it beats the Hyundai in range.
