2017 Hyundai Accent vs. Its Competition

2017 Hyundai Accent
Martin Padgett Martin Padgett Editorial Director

The Accent competes with some very well-equipped, very stylish subcompact cars.

Among them, our favorite is the Honda Fit.

The Accent is roomy, but the Fit has a flip-fold rear seat that beats the Hyundai for versatility.

The Chevrolet Sonic offers refinement and a strong list of features.

The Nissan Versa and Versa Note are roomy but not much fun to drive and the sedan styling is awkward.

The Toyota Yaris is stylish but it is not as well-equipped and the value equation is not as strong; we prefer the Yaris iA sedan to the unrelated hatchbacks.

Finally, the Ford Fiesta offers more technology and better handling, particularly as the Fiesta ST, but its seats are uncomfortable.

Quick Specs
4.7
The 2017 Hyundai Accent has a bargain pricetag and lots of space, but its safety scores aren't competitive.
6.5
The 2017 Chevrolet Sonic gets some safety and feature improvements, and should continue to score big on refinement and driving fun.
4.2
The 2017 Fiesta drops pro handling moves in ST trim, and 3-cylinders excel at sipping fuel--but all Fiestas have very tight interiors.
6.0
The 2017 Honda Fit gives up some fun-to-drive spunk for unparalleled interior space and flexibility.
5.0
No frills transportation still exists in the Nissan Versa, but it might be just the ticket for those on a budget looking for an urban runabout.
4.5
The 2017 Toyota Yaris iA adds a good sedan to the lineup this year. So good, in fact, we're not sure why the hatchback is around any longer.
