2017 Honda Ridgeline vs. Its Competition

2017 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition
Martin Padgett Martin Padgett Editorial Director

In a market niche with more than its share of outdated hardware, the mid-size pickup class has two new, bright stars.

Until now, the Chevrolet Colorado and nearly identical GMC Canyon have led the segment with the best interiors, most refinement, and best ride quality in the class.

Of the two, the GMC Canyon is better because it has slightly higher payload and towing ratings, nicer interior materials, and offers full-time all-wheel drive.

However, we like the Chevy's available diesel engine.

The redesigned Toyota Tacoma made significant content and powertrain updates for the 2016 model year, but the interior quality and overall refinement can't match the GM trucks.

The Nissan Frontier offers good cab space and a strong V-6, but it is the oldest model in the segment and it shows.
