2014 Honda Crosstour vs. Its Competition

There's truly no direct rival to the 2013 Honda Crosstour.

Purely in form, the BMW X6 is, oddly enough, the closest competitor to the Crosstour--although it suffers from many of the same criticisms in usability and sensibility.

The Subaru Outback is a more rugged alternative, with a far more spacious and versatile interior.

One of the closest alternatives would be the Toyota Venza, although the Venza is definitely more practical, and more of a wagon and a car than the Crosstour.

Meanwhile, two wagons--the Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen and Acura TSX--both offer more interior space and a sporty driving experience, with good gas mileage.

The Jetta Sportwagen in particular stands out due to its available TDI turbodiesel engine.

Quick Specs
The 2014 Honda Crosstour doesn't have a clear niche: it promises more room than the excellent Accord sedan, but doesn't net much extra space under its hatch.
With exception to those green-car enthusiasts out there, we think the 2014 Acura TSX strikes a solid compromise for shoppers interested in a practical, sporty, premium compact sedan.
The 2014 BMW X6 bends genres, in mostly successful ways; but whether you like it depends on what you're crossing over from.
Above all else, the 2014 Subaru Outback remains an eminently practical and capable vehicle, with generous interior space both for people and their gear.
If you don't need a rugged SUV, the 2014 Toyota Venza is a practical, even stylish alternative with some strong wagon and hatchback leanings.
