2018 Honda Civic vs. Its Competition

2018 Honda Civic
Aaron Cole Aaron Cole Managing Editor

The Civic is most often compared to the Corolla, and we can’t see why.

The Honda offers better engines, a better shape, and more interior room than the Toyota.

It’s not fair anymore.

The Chevy Cruze boasts both a sedan and hatchback body style, with an available turbodiesel that’s more efficient on long drives than the Civic—but that’s it.

The Ford Focus is dated, and perhaps outgunned in many respects by the Civic, except for the high-performance, rorty RS model.

The Hyundai Elantra leans toward practicality and affordability and offers an intriguing hatchback that could be more useful.

The Volkswagen Golf is a two- or four-door hatchback that’s a solid performer in any guise without attracting attention to itself.

Quick Specs
7.5
The 2018 Honda Civic is a good car made better by plenty of options and value at nearly every stop.
6.8
The 2018 Chevy Cruze offers lots of compelling reasons to select it, but we’d like to see more safety tech on its standard equipment roster.
6.2
The 2018 Ford Focus is irony on wheels: it comes in a dizzying range of models, of which the SEL and ST are our picks.
6.8
The 2018 Hyundai Elantra adds a versatile hatchback to the fold and makes a more compelling case as a compact contender in a value-packed segment.
6.3
Perfectly average in every way, the Toyota Corolla is thoroughly competent, but not at all interesting.
6.5
There's a VW Golf for everyone, and they're even better for 2018 thanks to a big tech upgrade inside.
