The Cadillac Escalade, also from GM, is one of the closest rivals to the GMC Yukon, in its luxurious Denali form.
Both models have the same powertrain, along with many of the same features, and although the GMC costs a bit less, the Cadillac Escalade is the choice for those who want to be seen.
In standard or long-wheelbase models, the Ford Expedition rides and handles as well as or better than the Yukon, and while its V-8 engines are a step behind in power, with new engines soon expected they should be back near the top.
The Toyota Sequoia tends to be a little too heavy on the macho cues for many tastes, but with ride comfort the only major exception it's fully competitive in most respects.
The Nissan Armada remains another option; it's the thirstiest of the full-size SUVs, although it offers a strong value and has reasonably good performance.

The 2013 Toyota Sequoia promises--and delivers--traditional truck toughness, packing macho style and a big V-8, as well as space for up to eight; but it's mighty thirsty to be a everyday family vehicle. |
