The Hummer EV’s real competition doesn’t exist yet, but the electric Ford F-150 in the works should present a much more recognizable face to the world, while offering great utility.
The Hummer has some battery technology in common with the Lyriq, the new Cadillac electric SUV due in a couple of years; they’re both style statements and political statements, one purely blue-state and the other more purple than anything.
Of course there’s the Tesla Cybertruck, which doesn’t have a factory or a proven crash-tested architecture yet, and the Rivian RT1, which should emerge in more secure shape soon, thanks to investments from Ford and Amazon.
