2020 GMC Canyon vs. Its Competition

2020 GMC Canyon
Andrew Ganz Andrew Ganz Senior Editor

The Chevy Colorado offers nearly everything the GMC Canyon does, and it’s often a little cheaper.

We like the look of the GMC more, though, and may be willing to pay extra.

The Ford Ranger re-arrived on the scene last year with a strong turbo-4 and lots of standard safety gear, but refinement could be better and its price can skyrocket.

The Toyota Tacoma remains hugely popular, and we’re not entirely sure why.

Its interior is cramped and its engine is light on power.

The Honda Ridgeline is the pickup truck rational folks would buy, but it turns out few of us are actually rational.

Nissan’s Frontier is up for a redesign that can’t come soon enough, although the current model is often discounted and may be worth a look if you’re on a budget.

Quick Specs
4.8
The 2020 GMC Canyon has its virtues, but its design is beginning to feel old and it hasn’t done well in crash tests.
5.0
The 2020 Chevrolet Colorado checks many of the mid-size pickup truck boxes, but leaves safety by the side of the road.
5.0
The 2020 Ford Ranger mid-size pickup is a willing companion to weekend adventures. It’s our worst best friend.
7.0
The 2020 Honda Ridgeline pick-ups differently; it’s a truck that’s more comfortable and practical than tougher-duty rivals.
3.8
A new V-6 gives buyers a reason to shop the 2020 Nissan Frontier this year, but waiting for next year’s redesign is a better idea.
5.3
Myriad detail upgrades keep the 2020 Toyota Tacoma competitive in the increasingly competitive mid-size pickup truck market.
