2017 Ford Taurus vs. Its Competition

Full-size sedans are a lost art nowadays.

While we're convinced that it should be the answer for many families—they just aren't.

We like the Buick LaCrosse for its sense of style and relative comfort, but it lacks the pizzazz that a high-po powertrain like the SHO can provide.

The Avalon is just as refined as the Taurus, but it too is showing its age.

The Chrysler 300 is a little more upmarket and with a better V-6, but can get expensive in a hurry.

The Nissan Maxima suffers the same bad packaging as the Ford Taurus inside, although its exterior is a little "love it or leave it," if you ask us.

Quick Specs
5.2
The 2017 Ford Taurus is the full-sizer that Ford once called its flagship. Times change—and so do tastes—and the Taurus struggles to keep up with others in its class.
7.2
An excellent chassis and a nice interior mean the LaCrosse should be on your shopping list. At the low end, it represents an excellent value and should be on any full-size sedan buyer's shopping list.
6.5
The 2017 Chevrolet Impala hits the big-car target with handsome lines, composed handling, and on-point connectivity.
6.7
With its big footprint, big shoulders, and big V-8 power, the 2017 Chrysler 300 is an aging but charming sedan.
7.3
The 2017 Nissan Maxima is the wild child of the Nissan bunch. It looks the part, but don't be fooled: after first blush it acts more like a near-luxury cruiser.
7.8
The 2017 Toyota Avalon gives the full-size sedan a good name, with its exceptional space and style.
