2017 Ford Flex vs. Its Competition

2017 Ford Flex
Aaron Cole Aaron Cole Managing Editor

If the crossover is the alternative to the minivan, then consider the Ford Flex to be the alternative to the alternative—if that makes sense.

The Buick Enclave is among our favorites for its refinement, although the Flex seems a little better positioned for daily family duty.

We like the Chrysler Pacifica, and would recommend the minivan in nearly every circumstance, except if you can't live with yourself living with sliding doors.

The Honda Pilot is an exceptional three-row family crossover, and can swallow as much cargo as the Flex, but doesn't share the same exterior flair.

The Range Rover Sport and Acura MDX are much more upscale offerings—with a similar upscale price to match.

Quick Specs
6.2
The 2017 Ford Flex is a spacious family hauler with a style all its own. It lacks the fuel economy of some of the competitors, but beauty doesn't come without effort.
7.5
The 2017 Acura MDX is one of the best-driving, most technologically advanced three-row luxury crossovers, and a new Sport Hybrid model and active suspension should only add to that reputation.
7.2
The 2017 Buick Enclave is a good-looking SUV for families and one of the better-aging GM cars in recent memory.
8.3
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica plays to all the traditional minivan strengths, while it strikes out in exciting new directions in styling and in plug-in hybrid technology.

Blending sport and utility like almost no other SUV, the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is impressive in any configuration.
