The Ford F-150 is perennially in a dogfight with the GMC Sierra 1500/Chevy Silverado for buyers’ hearts and wallets.
While fleet buyers may be somewhat brand-agnostic, retail buyers may not be swayed by the F-150’s aluminum construction and turbo powertrains that deliver unreliable mileage gains.
The new GM trucks coming this year may change the equation.
Certainly the new Ram 1500 has; it’s even more refined than before, and will offer mild-hybrid and diesel powerplants to complement its revamped chassis.
The Toyota and Nissan trucks are second-tier in this class, but both offer strong V-8s; Toyota sells durability, while Nissan sells a quasi-heavy-duty turbodiesel truck that may sway buyers.
