The Ford Expedition has, for a number of model years, been competitive in some respects but deficient in others, compared to its full-size-SUV rivals.
But with its most direct rivals, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, both redesigned for 2015, Ford has some new challenges—and it appears that they've met GM by pulling out impressive features like a turbocharged V-6 and a continuous-damping suspension.
The Toyota Sequoia has a strong and charismatic V-8 engine, as well as impressive towing numbers, but its interior layout doesn't feel as smart (either in layout or in the aesthetic sense).
The Nissan Armada is definitely the most outdated-feeling in this crowd; it feels smaller inside, even though it isn't all that much smaller from the outside.
Factor in the NASCAR-ish engine note and the dated, plasticky look of the dash and there's not enough to charm most shoppers.
As for those GM models, they have their own approach to fuel efficiency, keeping larger engines with cylinder deactivation and other technologies.
