2016 Ferrari California vs. Its Competition

2016 Ferrari California T

The California T is the entry point to the brand, yet it lines up with some of the most expensive models from other automakers.

The Porsche 911 is perhaps the most practical high-performance car available anywhere, but it's also a lot more common, and, unless you're looking at something like the expensive Turbo S model, the 911 isn't as powerful or quick.

BMW's 6-Series and Mercedes-Benz's SL-Class both offer very attractive, capable, and well-equipped large roadsters, but again, the brand cachet of Ferrari is hard to match.

Ferrari's sister brand Maserati offers the GranTurismo Convertible, which ticks most of the same boxes: Italian style and power, a comfortable and luxurious interior, and top-down cruising.

But the GranTurismo isn't as quick or as refined, and it only comes with a soft top.

Bentley's Continental GT Convertible, especially in its most powerful iterations, can also satisfy the big, fast convertible itch, but it's more of a boulevardier than a daily-drivable sports machine.

Quick Specs
Perhaps the best weekend getaway car of Ferrari's lineup, the 2016 California T combines the brands traditional look and feel with a little more open-air flexibility.
The 2016 BMW M6 is a no-compromises kind of car for buyers unfazed by traditional sports car manufacturers. It's better suited for the streets than the track, and that's not a bad thing.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class offers relaxed luxury and willing power, but delivers nimble moves when called upon.
From the satisfying Carrera to the outrageous GT3 RS, the 2016 Porsche 911 is consistently brilliant, and lives up to the this model line's pedigree in every respect—with some modern comforts spliced right in.
The 2016 Bentley Continental GT family of coupes shows that brash performance can live hand in hand with a genteel demeanor.
The 2016 Maserati GranTurismo puts a gorgeous wrapper on Ferrari-inspired performance, to stunning effect.
