2017 Ferrari 488 GTB vs. Its Competition

2017 Ferrari 488 Spyder
Martin Padgett Martin Padgett Editorial Director

The 488 GTB and Spider are insanely charismatic—and powerful.

Their rivals don't quite pull off the same blend of shattering performance and emotional, heritage-rich looks.

The Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 has two more cylinders than the 488 and wedgier styling, and is full of brute force—now far better controlled though than in the past; although the Ferrari sounds better and feels more balanced.

The McLaren 570S and 650S is closely matched with the 488 GTB in acceleration, and some may prefer its handling capability to that of the 488 GTB.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage is more of a touring-car alternative to the 488, and it still has quite a lot of charm and brash attitude.

The Chevrolet Corvette costs a small fraction of the amount that these other cars command, yet it’s surprisingly close in capability, and in how it rewards the driver when driven near the limit.

Then there’s the Porsche 911 Turbo; a performance legend, the 911 Turbo keeps close to its heritage in every way, offering driving purists superb handling and the sort of predictable performance and composure—day in, day out—that few cars in this class approach.

The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette antes up stunning performance and great features; we're mixed on its boy-racer looks.
7.8
The 2017 Porsche 911 is a toe into the waters of modernity with a base turbo engine that gets good fuel economy. Don't be fooled; it's every bit the super car it always has been.
7.2
The 2017 Aston Martin Vantage is one of the few remaining bespoke sports cars, likely one of the final years before the automaker capitalizes on its partnership with Mercedes-Benz.
It may be Lamborghini's entry-level model, but the Huracán is our choice over the Aventador.
