2016 Dodge Viper vs. Its Competition

2016 Dodge Viper ACR
Martin Padgett Martin Padgett Editorial Director

The Viper is brutally efficient as a performance car, but even with the latest upgrades, it still lacks the refinement and comfort of European cars like the Audi R8 and Maserati GranTurismo.

The Chevy Corvette Stingray Z06 may be the closest current analogue to the Viper, with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque from a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8.

It's the most powerful Corvette to date, and easily the most track-focused.

Unlike the Viper, the Z06 is available with an automatic transmission and either a removable roof panel or a convertible top.

It's a stunning sports car that's a magnitude better than the Stingray, and probably America's best sportscar offering today.

The Audi R8 has evolved into a more sophisticated machine with somewhat subdued styling, while the Maserati continues with ageless styling and a tilt toward grand touring.

There's also the Jaguar F-Type, a stunning car to see and hear, and a beautifully capable performer in R guise.
