2016 Dodge Journey vs. Its Competition

2016 Dodge Journey
Bengt Halvorson Bengt Halvorson Senior Editor

The Dodge Journey has been an interesting alternative to compact crossovers like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Chevrolet Equinox, among others, over the years, but as most of those other models have seen full revamps the Journey hasn't changed much.

The Honda CR-V is well-packaged, refined and known for its reliability.

The Chevy Equinox offers extra interior space and good gas mileage, but can be a little disappointing in the details.

The Toyota RAV4 only offers two rows of seats and a four-cylinder engine, but a hybrid version is on the way.

Meanwhile the Subaru Outback puts a focus on adventure-prone families with its added levels of ruggedness.

The Kia Sorento may the Journey's closest competitor, with seating for seven, a choice of four- or six- cylinder engines, and a strong infotainment system—as well as a bargain base price.

Quick Specs
The 2016 Dodge Journey is a strong value among crossover SUVs, but it misses the mark for the tech-savvy and safety-conscious.
The 2016 Chevrolet Equinox has one of the most spacious, quiet, and versatile interiors among smaller crossovers, and it loads on the value.
The 2016 Honda CR-V has its priorities in the right place, with lots of space and features—but performance takes a back seat.
The 2016 Kia Sorento grows a little bit larger, and grows up a lot.
Tough, go-anywhere capability can go together with a streamlined wagon design, class-leading safety, and a comfortable ride: The 2016 Subaru Outback is a conceptual mashup that's better than the sum of its parts.
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 is a competent crossover utility with a new Hybrid model this year, updated safety systems, and lots of interior space.
