The Journey's substantial revamp in 2011 puts it right back in one of the hottest sales segments today.
While the related Mitsu Outlander doesn't quite make the cut, the latest Kia Sorento is the Journey's toughest competitor, with seven seats, a choice of four- and six-cylinder engines, and this year, better fuel economy with direct-injection technology and UVO voice controls for audio and phone.
The Toyota RAV4 has options for six cylinders and seven seats, too, though it's generally more expensive than the Journey and Sorento.
If you're able to get by with five seats, the Subaru Outback is a perennial favorite with Vermonters and anyone using an #Occupy hashtag without irony, while the Honda CR-V's lightly revamped this year, staying relatively compact and, well, slow.
One of the best new entries to come along recently is the Chevy Equinox, with its base four-cylinder delivering up to 32 mpg on the highway and its interior delivering great passenger space.
