2017 Dodge Grand Caravan vs. Its Competition

The Dodge Grand Caravan is a functional whiz among minivans, with fold-away seating on most models and a uniform standard of power and safety across the lineup—but its crash-test scores lag far behind the latest minivans.

The Honda Odyssey is the gas-mileage, safety, and handling leader in the segment, and the only van available with an on-board vacuum cleaner.

Toyota's Sienna no longer has a thrifty four-cylinder available, but it still offers all-wheel drive—the only one to do so in the segment—and has an option for aircraft-style second-row chairs.

The Nissan Quest is now the smallest, least flexible minivan on the market, though it has good road manners and an interesting look, as well as competitive gas mileage.

Roof-strength scores, though, are lower than the rest of the pack.

The Kia Sedona offers a good compromise; its seats can slide and fold to create a large cargo area, and it's stylish and comfortable in the front two rows.

For our money, the new Chrysler Pacifica is the best minivan on the road, with excellent road manners and styling to go with a best-in-class seating system.

Quick Specs
The 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan has a fantastically flexible interior, but crash-test scores are a major concern.
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica plays to all the traditional minivan strengths, while it strikes out in exciting new directions in styling and in plug-in hybrid technology.
The 2017 Honda Odyssey may be replaced soon to bring it in line with competitors. It's still a practical van with a plan, and indispensable for big families.
The 2017 Kia Sedona is a viable alternative to more popular vans that can cost much more. For less than $30,000 to start, it makes a strong case based on value.
The 2017 Nissan Quest lacks features compared to most and lacks adequate safety results compared to all. Try before you buy.
The 2017 Toyota Sienna is now more powerful, but its real strength is its capability and versatility.
