Because there’s no other plug-in hybrid minivan on the market—or even conventional hybrid, for that matter—competitors for the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid are varied.
Both the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna minivans are its traditional competitors, with the Honda new for 2018 and the Sienna now by far the oldest competitor in the segment.
But neither of those offers a hybrid version this year, though one or both may appear down the road.
Among seven-seat plug-in hybrids, the only other one is the Volvo XC90 T8, a superb vehicle in its own right but offering only 19 miles of electric range, at a much higher price than the Chrysler.
The plug-in version of the smaller Mitsubishi Outlander SUV will finally reach the U.S.
in early 2018; it’s closer to the Pacifica Hybrid in price but far less capacious.
BMW and Mercedes-Benz also offer plug-in hybrid SUVs as well, but they’re as pricey as the Volvo and only offer five seats.
