2016 Chevrolet SS vs. Its Competition

2016 Chevrolet SS
Kirk Bell Kirk Bell Senior Editor

The 470-horsepower Dodge Charger SRT 392 is the most direct rival to the Chevrolet SS.

While the Charger bests the SS's engine output, it can't match the Chevy's feel and finesse.

The SS is simply lighter and more driver-connected.

With all-wheel drive and a turbocharged V-6, the Ford Taurus SHO is a completely different kind of car.

It's big and comfortable, and while it can't perform like the SS, it drives better than you might expect.

The Infiniti Q70 can be had with a big V-8 and has sport-sedan moves.

It's more of a luxury car, with beautiful, plush cabin appointments, but it offers performance similar to the Chevrolet.

The lower end of the Jaguar XF lineup also comes close to the SS, though with more luxury and a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6.

Quick Specs
7.4
Think of the 2016 Chevrolet SS as a four-door Camaro, with the power, handling, and interior space to live up to that promise.
7.2
The 2018 Infiniti Q70 stands alone as a warm take on luxury that others have left behind. It’s not as luxurious as the others—but it’s not as expensive as those, either.
8.2
The 2016 BMW 5-Series lineup keeps its classic sport-sedan essence but gives you a whole lot of choices—including a limo-like Gran Turismo.
7.8
With rear-wheel drive and available V-8 power, the 2016 Dodge Charger is a family sedan with a muscle-car heartbeat.
7.4
The 2016 Ford Taurus is the biggest sedan in its lineup, but it's short on rear-seat room, and it's beginning to feel its age.
8.6
The 2016 Jaguar XF may be made of aluminum, but it's no lightweight anymore in rear-seat space or nimble handling.
